My little female hummingbird showed up on the back porch feeder Thursday afternoon.  I figured she had arrived because whenever the male perched on a feeder he craned his neck upward in defensive mode.  My friend, Susan, headed out her door this morning to walk her dog and saw a bear on her property.  A first time for her so she and Nigel went right back inside.  She lives about 10 minutes from me.

The temperature was 40 degrees this morning at 8:30 when I headed to Murphy's farmers market in town.  Not many vendors set up early in the season but my favorite husband/wife team are always there....rain or shine.  Today they had their first harvest of baby kale, spinach, and mustard greens.  Bought a bag of each.  She is a native Cherokee Indian and sells her homemade healing salves made with her farm grown herbs. When she sets up each Saturday she burns dried sage to heal, protect, increase wisdom, and boost defense against disease.  This morning I bought her Healing Ways muscle and joint aid salve with comfrey, plantain, joe pye weed, and mullein.  I've been using comfrey salve for years on my shoulder joints.  She told me to use it daily for the best healing benefits.  I know the comfrey has worked for me especially when I overdo it in the garden lifting bags of comport and mulch or turning over the soil with the garden fork.  Haven't needed Motrin when I apply the salve twice a day on achy joints.

Some of the Blairsville farmers/vendors decided to take early online orders and setup a pickup site Saturdays from noon to 2 pm until their market opens the first weekend in June.  I'm heading to Blairsville for my goat cheese order and Janice and I bought loaves of artisan Tuscan herb loaves.

Love this time of year.  I'll stop at Mike's Seafood Restaurant on the way for salmon and cod to put in the freezer.

Temperature is up to 45 degrees, sunny, and a chilly dry breeze.  Fifties will be the high today.  Sorry you have snow in Massachusetts.
