HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CLIFF

I suppose the hummingbird feeders can be taken down now for the season, cleaned and stored until late March.  It's been almost two weeks since our last hummingbird made its appearance, but the feeders were left just in case a rogue hummer on its journey south needed to energize.  They are truly resilient and amazing creatures.  No matter what they encounter they have the strength and fortitude to bounce back.  Minutes after laying Maxine in her resting place that Wednesday, the last hummingbird of summer flew into the house,  lodged in between the open window panes, and when rescued took flight into the air to join the others heading south.

October's weather has been delightful so far.  A cold front breezed through over the first weekend and we bundled up for the John Campbell Folk School Art Festival only to peel the layers as the sun warmed us up.  Murphy is teeming with tourists enjoying the Blue Ridge Mountain's explosion of fall colors.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CLIFF   We'll have my father's favorite beat-in-the-pan chocolate cake and Cliff's favorite shepherd's pie this evening.

Found an adorable FREE 2-3 T bucket hat pattern online so made two.  Also made 6 new aprons to put in the hair salon where Cliff and I go.   Most of the others have sold.  Will drop these by today.  I forgot to take pictures of the last two denim aprons made from a skirt and a dress from the thrift shop in Andrews.  If they're still in the salon, I'll take a picture of them to post. 


 The closest thing we have in this house to a toddler head is a paper towel rack and a small spray bottle.

I busied myself in sewing these past days because everything seemed so quiet without Max that the silence was deafening. 

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CLIFF      Put on your turnout gear and fire up the hose.  We'll be lighting the candles later this evening.

happy belated birthday, cliff!!! i'm so sorry i forgot to call yesterday. we have your cards here and figured we would just give them to you when you guys come up later this month...

oh, and i love love love the aprons!!! someday, when life calms down a bit (HA!), i want to make and sell aprons, too. love them. and the hats are great!!

 Some days are full of doing tasks and chores that Cliff did for me.  The floor wasn't that dirty but he enjoyed saying.  When I woke this morning a little after five, very rested, no head talk in the night, I wondered how to fill my morning since it was too rainy, damp, dark, dank to walk in town. Going near any store was not an option and we are under a weather alert for high winds with possible 30-40 mph gusts that could down limbs and branches.  I did 30 minutes yoga live with Hannah then while eating my oatmeal breakfast Michael texted me that he needed a childhood picture of himself for his accounting firm.  They want to update the employee bios with childhood photos.  Hmmm...........that's a challenging task.  I pulled out all the boxes from the bathroom closet, brought them to the living room where I would have plenty of room to sort and go through albums.  Looks like those boxes hadn't been move in quite some time.  The large roach hotel was dated back to April of this year and it was time to vacuum up the dead debris behind the boxes.  I actually moved everything off the floor and clean

 Saturday mornings are Farmers Market mornings.  It's my time to stroll through the three pavilions visiting with familiar vendors and adding new ones to my routine.  There is so much wonderfully fresh produce weekly and I have had to control what I buy now or I'm throwing food away.  Last week I bought a North Georgia Candy Roaster squash. They are sweet and make delicious pies.  The old farmer who sold it to me is one I try not to engage in  conversation with during the sale. His conversation never stops while I'm cradling the heavy squash. Once I broke away from him I hooked a golf cart ride with a volunteer back to my car, placed the heavy squash in the back, and returned to the pavilions.  I've frozen many of the veggies for fall and winter.  This morning I was compelled to stop at a pipe display, not that I was thinking about taking up pipe smoking like the old mountain women, but what caught my eye and brought up unexpected childhood memories was the craftsman us
