Mark and Jen flew in from Kansas City, Mo on Thursday to spend a long weekend with us. After we ate supper, Cliff threw some logs in the fire pit and we spent the cool evening wrapped in quilts relaxed around the fire with our wine.
Friday morning Jen and I hit the gym for an hour of Pilates followed by a yoga class. I needed to stretch my aching muscles and Jen got the kinks out from the travel day before. Cliff and Mark read and snoozed at home then we all met at the Downtown Bakery for sandwiches.
They have delicious homemade breads and pastries. Jen wanted to walk around and see the downtown so we showed them Laundry Hill which Cliff and I used to walk until our doc told us it was verboten at our age, terrible for our hips and knees. Later that day we visited the Cherokee Wine Cellars and Fine Art Gallery for a wine tasting.
Spent the rest of the time sitting on the patio outback under the trees with our wines relaxing and talking.
From here we walked to The Parson's Pub, a new restaurant that opened on St. Patrick's Day and serves a wonderful shepherd's pie and has 50+ beers and ales.
Friday night was also the Art Walk so lots of people visiting and walking around town.
Originally, Jen and Mark were going to drive to Asheville on Saturday but changed plans so they could take me to the Chop House for an early Mother's Day dinner. Saturday morning we visited the Farmers Market and Mark and Jen met the people I vendor with. Earlier in the week I had ordered a vegetable quiche and a lemon meringue pie from The Pie Guy and by Saturday morning I needed another quiche. Makes a great breakfast dish and evening meal. From the Farmers Market we drove to Young Harris, GA for another Arts and Craft Festival. After all that shopping Jen and I had a late afternoon massage before heading to the Chop House for our patio reservations.
A lovely evening spent eating wonderful food, drinking more wine, laughing and enjoying family time together.
