Last Thursday morning we left Murphy pointing the Kia toward Kansas City for a visit with John and Mark and their families. Our stopping point Thursday evening was Marion, IL. Early Friday afternoon we arrived in Kansas City, MO. Mark was thankful he had a valid reason for leaving work Friday noontime to be home when we arrived.
Mark with his and Jen's rescue greyhounds. Ember, closest to Mark, was anxious around us so I was lucky to get this picture of her. She was rescued from an abused situation and our visit made her uncomfortable. She adores Mark and Jen.
Mark reassures her by picking her up and cuddling her.
Schroeder posed for his picture. He was more comfortable with us as he got used to our being there.
Panther led me up the stairs to show me where his dry food feeder was so I could remove the top and hand feed him. It's a timed feeder that drops food once in the morning and again in the evening but he figured I was a new person in his life and he could pull one over on me. It worked.
Saturday morning Carolyn, John, and Mark and Jen took us to the Annual Art Festival in downtown Kansas City. We ate some good food from different vendors, walked through the art displays, and by 1 pm were done because it was humid and quite warm. From there we drove to a wine tasting at MDL, the largest liquor store I've ever been in. Four times a year the manager sets up multiple tables all over the store for people to sample a variety of wines, from low to high end, whiskeys, beers, and whatever else one wants to try.
I've never seen so many aisles, bottles, and liquors in one store. I tasted a $50 wine and sampled Brady's Irish Cream, which was half price so I bought some to bring home. The store became packed with friendly happy people. It's a brilliant marketing strategy.
Late Sunday morning we rode the new trolley through the city. The ride was less crowded than during the busy work week so we could see the city without bobbing our heads back and forth between bodies. We jumped off the trolley at Union Station to see where Jen and Mark were married last December, then found a wonderful sweet shop where where we bought chocolate fudge and other irresistible confectioneries. After walking and seeing more sights, we ate at The Yardhouse, which had quite a diverse menu. Plenty of good food and laughter with family.
Wednesday night this computer did an update and last night Cliff updated my iPhone. Since the updates, I haven't been able to find my pictures on the phone. I keep getting an invalid message. Until Cliff can figure this dilemma out, the blog is void of pictures to share.
Monday morning we did our hugs and good-byes and headed toward Paducah, KY, our stopping point on the way home. We arrived at the Candlewood Inn late afternoon to be told that our room and three others had been flooded in a plumbing accident. The desk clerk sent us to the Fairfield Marriott next door where he had arranged for us to stay in a king suite ($199) for the same price as the Candlewood ($119) . The Candlewood doesn't serve breakfast but the Fairfield does. Our new accommodations were wonderful. It was a great visit and as always, very energizing to be with family.
