Since moving to North Carolina over 14 years ago, I've been gardening by the moon as other ancient cultures have done for years. It is believed that water in both the ground and the plants are affected by the gravitational pull of both the sun and the moon, just like the ocean tides are. So I print out the month-by-month Farmers Almanac calendar and stick it on my fridge along with photos, greeting cards, and other close-to-my-heart memorabilia. The other day while scrolling for the April growing dates, I spotted an article under "the best days for......." calendar which lists best days for certain chores and tasks. "Best Days to Wash You Cat" !!!! Who would ever attempt to wash a cat????
In the fall I dry and preserve some seeds from our favorite veggies and flowers. Cliff's winner tomato is the True Black Brandywine, a great producer. He asked me to continue growing his tomatoes. From the seeds I saved from last year, I started his on March 8 at the sunny dining room window.
This morning..........
The tray goes out in the sun once the temp hits 50 degrees but comes back in if it drops below 50 in the evening. Also, the hummingbird feeders are out and I'm watching for his first HB to come darting to the nectar. It was April 5 last year. It's a raw 46 degrees at 9:30 this morning. Tomorrow will jump up to 80 degrees.
Yesterday was our 41st anniversary and I got through the day in good spirits remembering the fun times and the goofy things we used to do. One of his favorite trips every chance we got was to go to Charleston, SC to eat in the open seafood restaurants, walk the beach and walk the long pier. We both missed the ocean and that was our fix.
