We haven't had any rain in weeks and the next ten days show no rain in sight.  Trees usually are bursting with fresh green leaves by this time but not leaves sprouting yet.  I haven't planted any seeds in the big garden because it'll be too much work to keep that garden watered.

I thought about building a raised garden to put by the porch stairs but that would mean power saws so that was out.  I found that Lowe's had a 2' X 4' cedar planter kit in a box that I could assemble myself.

I started assembling it on the porch with the intent of carrying it down to where I thought it would be best but plans changed.  It's a tool-free frame assembly kit where all the parts are computer-driven cut and fit together without fastening.  The instructions are the kind I like......no reading to confuse me, just pictures.

After I assembled the whole bed, sides slats and all, it was too heavy for me and because it wasn't fastened with screws the bed wasn't moveable without shifting the parts.  So...I took it apart, carried the parts to the driveway and reassembled it there.

 To level it....

I found treated lumber pieces that Cliff had stored in the shed for the back legs, cleared away the white rocks under the front legs, placed the level on all side and voila! ready for the four bags of raised garden soil.

I have about thirty basil plants that I started from seed weeks ago  I love growing basil and it's easy.  I've covered them for the night to keep them from the deer.  Tomorrow I'll devise a better cover.  It's a good bed for herbs and shade flowers because it's under the huge oak tree which allows morning sun and afternoon shade. I'm happy and love my new garden bed.  When you have to do things by yourself it makes one find different ways to solve issues, creative thinking and thinking out-of-the box.  To lift the four huge bags of soil I used my legs, tightened my abs and brought the bags up to my abs then placed the bags in the bed, cut each open with a box opener blade, spread the soil with gloved hands and planted the baby basil.

Looking online to see what else I can built without cutting fingers off.
