Would you believe........it's raining again! We've had a little over 2 inches since midnight and almost 4 inches for the month of October. We were going into town this morning to take pictures of the visiting Vietnam Memorial Wall, but plans have changed. Yesterday our neighbors, Tom and Jean, were returning from town after viewing the Wall in Konehete Park and spotted the black bear walking between houses here on Clay Durrett. This is the first time it's been spotted in our neighborhood during the day. I still haven't seen it. I've had visits from the deer and watched them walk through the neighborhood, rabbits each morning eat the birdseed off the ground, wild turkeys trot across the road, and I spotted my first chipmunk! We've heard strange animal sounds at dusk in our woods and many of the neighbors have had the bear rip their birdfeeders completely off the posts.
be careful going to the outhouse with a bear around! :) you know what they do in the woods...
that's a lot of fungi growing in your yard! the heavy rain, bear spotting, birds eating like winter is on their heels... sounds like a harbinger of a hard winter. apparently, the midwest is getting plastered with ice already? and our heat is OFF! brrrrr!
stay warm and don't get eaten by bears.

I may repeat things I've already posted. It's not due to age. I'm too lazy to go back and reread what I blogged previously. I've joined the Murphy Health and Fitness gym that's located right across from Konhete Park where I walk so I can swim now too. I didn't realize how much I missed being in the water. The other gym, Erlanger Fit Plus membership runs out in September. Cliff and I belonged to it since moving here and it has a great rehab program that both of us have used at different times. One time I asked a therapist about knee discomfort/pain and he showed me ways to strengthen quads and leg muscles to prevent knee weakness. Cliff did PT a few times for back discomfort due to belly pulling on his back muscles. After the PT a patient get a free month at the gym. We did Zumba and yoga classes together. But now I need to swim. Pool is heated when the temperatures cool down. Our mornings have bee...
My little female hummingbird showed up on the back porch feeder Thursday afternoon. I figured she had arrived because whenever the male perched on a feeder he craned his neck upward in defensive mode. My friend, Susan, headed out her door this morning to walk her dog and saw a bear on her property. A first time for her so she and Nigel went right back inside. She lives about 10 minutes from me. The temperature was 40 degrees this morning at 8:30 when I headed to Murphy's farmers market in town. Not many vendors set up early in the season but my favorite husband/wife team are always there....rain or shine. Today they had their first harvest of baby kale, spinach, and mustard greens. Bought a bag of each. She is a native Cherokee Indian and sells her homemade healing salves made with her farm grown herbs. When she sets up each Saturday she burns dried sage to heal, protect, increase wisdom, and boost defense against disease. This...
Started today by helping Janice fit a new soft cone on her sweet little pup. Lilly had major hip surgery last Friday and has to wear the plastic cone for two weeks and Janice has to do PT four to five times each day. She calls me when she needs support or help with Lilly. The new cone didn't work because it was too soft. This afternoon the new surgery pj's from Amazon arrived. It looks like the pj's will stop her from licking her itchy stitches but she can't pee without wetting the suit. They will both get through this annoying trial. Yesterday morning I washed and bleached the uncovered deck getting it ready for stain. This morning I began staining when I got back from helping Janice. I'd like to wait until Thursday before walking on the stained steps to do the skipped ones but will have to check the forecast tomorrow. It feels good to get this done and this amount shouldn't hurt my wrist or shoulder. This afternoo...
