Bought myself a new grill for Father's Day. I enjoy making up marinades and grilling tuna steaks, chicken parts, and garden vegetables. Anything that can be cooked on the grill saves kitchen clean-up. Tonight we had teriyaki chicken with rice and garden fresh Dragon carrots. These carrots are red with an orange core, a little sweeter than regular carrots. The last couple of years my carrots didn't do well as they require a lot of water. With such a rainy winter and spring the carrots and beets are showing off. I'm hoping the potatoes aren't rotting in the clay. Broccoli and cauliflower never produced heads larger than buttons and most of the cabbage was devoured by caterpillars. We've been eating just the beet greens but the beets will be ready to be pulled very soon. Swiss chard is slow, finally maturing enough to be put in a quiche.

Cliff has become one with the yoga mat and attends yoga classes with me three times a week. The first time he attended a class, he said he did so many downward facing dogs, he thought he was going to bark. Our doctor told him he needed to be doing yoga and tai chi for his stress, blood pressure, and aging aches and pains. Right now he's into the yoga and I am learning the art of tai chi. Because he felt comfortable with Susan, our hair dresser and yoga instructor, he began with her class and surprisingly enough, felt great relief in his neck and shoulders after doing asanas and meditation. I start my morning with step aerobics and pilates and he joins me now for yoga. Susan is mid-40's and does Monday yoga only because she has her own hair salon. Dorothy is a dynamite 65-year old and does step and Pilates on Monday, Wednesday, Friday. We do yoga with Marie on Wednesday and Friday. She is about 4'8", weighs about 100 pounds, is also 65 years old and has arthritis, which is what got her into teaching yoga so she could manage her pain without medication. Cliff is amazed by how much he sweats and works during his yoga sessions. In my step and Pilates class, I work out with a young woman whose doctor suggested these classes to help her keep her MS under control.
