I believe my days are back to some normalcy. My new refrigerator was delivered midday Tuesday. It was scheduled for possible delivery on Friday because of unknown road conditions due to wet roads and freezing temperature each evening. I was so full of gratitude Monday evening my eyes welled up with tears. Each time I needed something to eat or tried to prepare an easy meal, I put on my winter jacket and brought in supplies. Daytime temps never reached thirty degrees for a few days and most of the meal foods were still in Janice's and Libby's refrigerator/freezers. I couldn't bear to drive up every couple of days and get food.
Five large cushions line both French doors, day and night. It was easier to just use the kitchen door to do everything than move and restack rolled blankets and pillows every time I refilled the bird feeder or brought in foods. This is the coldest and longest spell of deep winter throughout the southern states in decades. January and February have arctic fronts come through but there's usually a break between when temps return to normal fifties before the next surge of cold settles in. Thursday afternoon I retrieved my foods from the neighbors but couldn't find my crockpot chicken. Don't know if I already posted the rubbed chicken saga, but I had a 5+ lb chicken thawing in the fridge and prepared it with my rub Friday morning about the same time I noticed warm milk and soft ice-cream and water dripping from the door. I had borrowed Janice's crockpot because hers is bigger. I plugged it in Friday morning and a few hours later realized it wasn't warm. Moved it to another plug and when I checked an hour later it wasn't warm. Wrapped the pot in saran and later that day Charlie helped me transport foods to two neighbors. Yesterday when we picked up my foods we couldn't find the crockpot with a chicken. After he helped me unload the truck and I pulled it back into the garage, it dawned on me where the chicken was. All those days it was sitting in the back seat of the Toyota! The truck smells like chicken rub now. Oh, well. No sense crying over a rotten chicken................
Happy Summer Solstice! It was a beautiful start to this day. The typical mountain fog had settled in when I got up at 6:30 but burned off shortly after. I always go outside when I first get up, scan for wildlife, and walk around soaking in the morning peace and calm. Did about 20 minutes of stretchy yoga, showered and had a light breakfast of cream of buckwheat with ghee-fried peaches. I still felt a little full from eating Italian food with Janice last night. We go out at 4:30 and take our time eating and talking, have a glass of wine and Friday night is dessert night. Janice is doing better. It'll be a year in August since she lost Ernie. I left the breakfast dishes in the sink and headed to our Murphy Farmers Market. First stop was "Healing Ways" produce farmers for fresh Swiss chard, butter crunch lettuce, and a bunch of young summer squash and zucchini since all of mine are falling off the plants....
