Today I enjoyed a Mother's Day that fit me perfectly.  We spent the day on the mountain with the mighty oaks, the blooming wild azaleas, the budding trellised wisteria, and the zillion vole tunnels burrowed in the tree roots and the garden soil.  To avoid the crowded Mother's Day restaurants, Cliff took me out last night for local-caught blackened trout with steamed broccoli dinner at Brothers Restaurant.  Last night was also senior prom night so we watched couples in tuxes and evening gowns gather in the dining room before heading to their exciting night ahead.  That brought back memories!

Lately mornings have been cool and quite comfortable with afternoon temperatures reaching mid to high 80's.  This morning I started in the vegetable garden doing some weeding.  Why don't voles eat weed roots??  I planted four hills of cucumbers and put in a teepee trellis just in case voles don't like the taste of cuke roots and they actually grow.  Lettuce is still thriving.  We got one meal out of the whole spinach patch.  I grabbed the only thriving spinach before the varmints destroyed it.  Voles don't seem  to like arugula.
Decided to plant tomatoes in a whiskey barrel and put herbs in pots.  The difficult part is finding areas that receive 6-8 hours of sun here in the woods.
Kitchen garden next to the porch.  Basil, cilantro, lettuce, sage, holy basil, and a few other things that the voles can't reach.
I'm so excited!  Wisteria blossoms on the trellised wisteria we planted last year.
Cliff worked on his motorcycle today and after changing the oil found an oil leak. We puttered around doing lots of outside chores while the day was breezy and comfortable.  I got logs stacks from trees we cut down weeks ago, raked decayed leaves into the woods which opened up another area where I might plant a hydrangea, cooked a chicken in the crock-pot and marinated tuna steaks for the grill.   This afternoon practiced this week's yoga lesson on the back porch.  I've got two more weeks of teaching yoga (6 more days) and then will hand it back over to Anita with a whole new appreciation for what she does.  It's been an experience.

Heard from all the children today wishing me a Happy Mother's Day.  Michael hasn't tilled his garden yet in Ossipee.  He said the nights are still dropping to around 34 degrees so won't be starting his garden until after Memorial Day.  He's had voles for years and is also plagued by one persistent woodchuck.  Last year he potted many of his plants but the woodchuck just climbed up the pots and ate his vegetables.  John turns 49 Monday.  Mark starts a new job in Melbourne Monday and he and Jen are happy there.  We hope to visit Lauria, Jim, and grandchildren in July.

That's my very Happy Mother's Day! and I've proofed this twice and I'm done.
