Cliff and I decided to get away for a few days since we haven't been anywhere in about two years and he was feeling stronger during his six-week break from chemo.  We needed the calm we feel near the ocean and to eat seafood overlooking the salt marshes and ocean waves. This also was my birthday celebration, a drive to Beaufort, SC in lieu of baking my own birthday cake.  Usually when we crave the salt water, we head to Charleston but I needed a different adventure this time.  Beaufort is about a six-hour drive and Cliff wanted to see if he able to do it.  I drove the last hour when he needed a break.

Cliff enjoying fried flounder.  Can you find the vegetables?

Hunting Island lighthouse.....................

We walked the beach....................

There was nobody around who could take a picture of us together.

Tiny crab taking a chance exposing itself on the beach.  Luckily there were no seagulls flying over or sandpipers running around.

We went to the Historic District hoping to tour the Cuthbert Scheper Simmer House, 1861, where Harriet Tubman baked bread but sadly, that house and most others in the district had become B&B's.

Cypress Wetlands was a nice walk..............

That's not a floating log.  Signs were strategically posted advising people not to stray off the path.  You don't need to tell us twice.

Unless you kept a keen eye out for the marsh wildlife or something moved, they were camouflaged quite well.

Off to find another restaurant on the ocean...........

Eating outside on an open porch is relaxing.  So enjoyable and free feeling.

Final restaurant, late afternoon at KC Mike's BBQ.

We didn't order the soup of the day, just a light BBQ meal and back to the hotel.  Time away was healing, lifting Cliff's spirits.
