All the lined winter curtains are down, put through thirty minutes of dust removal on air fluff, folded and put out of sight until next fall when the cold temperatures chill the house again. Lighter linen curtains in all the windows allow the spring feeling to seep into each room. After a chilly night that dropped to 30 degrees by 7 am, today reached 65 with a dry breeze. It was very comfortable for working outside. Each year as summer winds down I say next spring I will plant less until the March sunshine becomes warmer and extends daylight hours so I have more time to play outside. Today I added mushroom compost to one of the garden beds where I started a few rows of romaine lettuce, onions, and beets. After watering, to keep the squirrels from digging in the fresh soil, I spread blood meal around. Squirrels have been very energetic and destructive all winter. They've climbed on window screens, frantically chase each other around the yard and porch knocking over potted plants. I wish hawks enjoyed squirrel meat.
Hummingbirds have been sighted in North Georgia and Chattanooga. I have one feeder on the back porch where I can see it from my recliner and the other at the kitchen window. Last year my first sighting was on our anniversary, April 2. Lauria will be 58 on April 1.
Last week, Charlie helped clean out Cliff's old shed getting rid of dozens of old tools and duplicates to make more room for my potting supplies. I plan on adding anther window for more natural light. He has a good brain for organizing so hoping to pay him to help me put things in some order.
