The alarm went off at 6 AM! What's up with that?! We're retired.....no alarms! Cliff has joined the Bellview Volunteer Fire Dept. and had to meet with the Chief and other new volunteers to practice and pass his EVOC driving. (I think it's EVOC) Driving a fire truck on these steep mountain roads is quite different than the flat FL roads. We've driven some of the roads that are in our fire district and for many, there is no way out. The trucks have to turn around or back out. It's 38 degrees right now and he's still not happy with the cold. He'd like to be able to go south until April. I was ready for the change, tired of the constant heat/humidity, not being able to work comfortably outside in my gardens, and A/C running for 7 months in FL. Our fall days have been delightful, mostly sunny mid 60's to mid 70's. The sunrise this morning is layered with brilliant pink and orange tiers against a baby blue sky. A few mornings ago, I was graced by five deer (a first in our yard) right off our back porch. When the lead deer sensed my presence on the porch, he snorted a deep, loud signal, flicked his tail and gracefully led the others up the the mountain and out of sight. My birds are tapping on the window awaiting their breakfast.
Happy Summer Solstice! It was a beautiful start to this day. The typical mountain fog had settled in when I got up at 6:30 but burned off shortly after. I always go outside when I first get up, scan for wildlife, and walk around soaking in the morning peace and calm. Did about 20 minutes of stretchy yoga, showered and had a light breakfast of cream of buckwheat with ghee-fried peaches. I still felt a little full from eating Italian food with Janice last night. We go out at 4:30 and take our time eating and talking, have a glass of wine and Friday night is dessert night. Janice is doing better. It'll be a year in August since she lost Ernie. I left the breakfast dishes in the sink and headed to our Murphy Farmers Market. First stop was "Healing Ways" produce farmers for fresh Swiss chard, butter crunch lettuce, and a bunch of young summer squash and zucchini since all of mine are falling off the plants....
