Farmer's Market

The first Farmers' Market of the season opened last Saturday with a very cold start.  When we arrived at 10, the vendors were still bundled in scarves and gloves as the sun slowly brought the temperature up.   Winds were predicted to gust up to 40 mph that day so they were concerned about their tents remaining on the ground as the day went on.  It was so nice to see the common buzzing with people again.  We bought  a red tip lettuce and a butter crisp from Candy Mountain Farms.  These things were huge! and will last for weeks.    Our favorite lady from Marble was set up with her jams and zucchini relish.  She makes a quart relish for Cliff at the start of the season.

Our garden is still slow.  Nights have been dropping to 30's and we've had some cool cloudy days.  It's still breezy....more like March.  Today should be sunny and hit 75.  Night temperatures this week are predicted to be warmer, 50's, and days may reach 80 so the garden soil will warm up.  I've been reading up on planting rhubarb and constructing a grape vine.  Need to watch some reruns of Lucy and Ethel stomping grapes so I can make my own wine.

Rhubarb was easy to grow in PA. I don't know abut NC. When you get ready to stomp the grapes I want to watch!
