Willie Nelson

On the road again...............

We saw Willie Nelson live in concert last night!  It was a rush for us.  Ninety minutes of Willie live!  The only concerts we've attended are the small hometown kind where parking is easy and the price is right......cheap or free.  Also, there are very few performers or groups that I feel are worth fighting the crowds to see.  Andrea Boccelli is another I would love to see live and he's performing in Orlando tonight but tickets are in the hundreds of dollars so I'll never get to see him.  Willie's tickets were crazy reasonable.

The Anderson Music Hall, located in Hiawassee, Georgia, is only about a 40-minute drive from Murphy.  We didn't know how early people would arrive and the concert was SRO so we were parked on the grounds at 5:30 for a 7:00 show.  Actually, we weren't the first ones on the lot and got a great parking spot.  There were no parking attendants.  People just pulled in one right after another and parked.  What a concept!  Last night by 5:00, it was brutally cold and windy, temperatures dropping to 25 with wind gusts to 30 mph.  Doors opened at 6 so we bundled up in scarves, hoods, and gloves and quickly made our way to the hall.  After living in a city environment for so long, this was so refreshing.  In Florida, every time we went anywhere that had crowds, my purse was searched and we were frisked for bombs and an arsenal of ammo hidden under our clothes.  Last night was so easy.  I left my purse at home to make getting into the hall easier and quicker, threw my water bottle away so it wouldn't be confiscated.  At the door our tickets were taken and we were told to come in and have fun!! No body cavity searches.
Our seats were located in orange section 1.  Elizabeth Cook opened for Willie. Never heard of her.  We just wanted Willie to appear.   He stepped through the curtains around 8 and got a standing ovation as he picked up his guitar and donned his red bandana.  Awesome! The ladies in blue section 10 were quite entertaining themselves as they gyrated and danced at their seats.  Willie threw his sweaty bandana to the ladies in blue 10.  He began his concert with "Whiskey River," and as expected, "Georgia on my Mind," which brought the crowd to hoots and cheers, followed by "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain," " Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground," " I Gotta Get Drunk," and many other classics that he encouraged us to sing with him, ending with a few of his new songs.  His concert was just awesome. I'm still on a "Willie" high this morning.
