We made it safely through the night.  No hail or damaging wind here on the mountain.  The worst of the storm passed a few miles to our north.  As we read the comments and reports on our radio station WKRK Facebook page, we're finding out there is more damage than we knew about last night.  I think this truck was in the Save-A-Lot parking lot.

I just returned to WKRK FB and noticed this new shot of Wayne's Feed and Grain!  It looks like it's totally destroyed.

Our drugstore is in the same complex as Ingles and had some structural damage.  We were heading out this morning to pick up our Rx's.  The tornado did do damage to Wayne's Feed and Grain store.  Hope it didn't scatter the little peeps.  The second line of storms spawned tornadoes in the Candy Mountain area on 294 completely closing down some of the roads.  The fire/rescue dispatchers did an amazing job last night during the storm.
Cherokee County was damaged by a tornado and high winds on Friday night, March 2. Damage is located in several communities including Hiwassee Dam, Peachtree, Martins Tomotla, Grape Creek, and the town of Murphy. A state of emergency has been declared by the Town of Murphy and Cherokee County. Cherokee County Emergency Personnel are accessing the damage and doing door by door searches. Resources are also being deployed to Cherokee County from several counties in North Carolina and from neighboring states as a result of the declaration to assist with any potential rescue operations, damage assessment, and cleanup. Command for all operations has been located at the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department. A shelter has been setup at Peachtree Fire Department by the Red Cross. Damage assessment will begin on Saturday beginning at daylight.

No injuries or deaths have been reported but several businesses and homes have been damaged. Safety of our citizens is our main concern, so we are asking everyone to shelter in place because of debris and power lines in the roads.

A news conference will be held at 1:00PM at the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office to provide an update of the damage
