Back to the Beginning

Some pictures from Thursday morning after Jim and Lauria headed for a Memorial Service in Florida.  This was how our morning started.
Get dressed.  Walk Kirby.  Scramble eggs for Ben, crispy rice with milk for one, crispy rice dry for another, olives for Olivia, granola for Sofia, and whatever else looked and sounded appealing.  When breakfast was over and their little bellies were satisfied, we all piled in the Kia and Papa drove us to the library for books and four DVDs.  They checked out some Hardy Boys, some ballerina and princess stories, 101 Cool Magic Tricks, and How to Make the Best Airplanes Ever.   After the library, we met Pat and Larry at Downtown Pizza for lunch.  The three "bigs" went to the pizza bar and served themselves and did their drinks while Papa and I helped the two "littles" with their choices.  When we finished our salads and pizza, we headed to the game room, bought some tokens and played games.  The biggest decision was what prizes to pick with the tickets they won.  It was later in the afternoon while they watched a DVD that I realized I hadn't taken any pictures of them playing games or choosing their prizes.
Grant reading directions to make an airplane.
Olivia and Ben flying the planes that the bigs made for them.  Check out the big fuzzy slippers that Olivia bought at one of the thrift store trips.

For supper, Hayden made macaroni and cheese but not out of a box.  She shredded the Parmesan cheese, added milk and butter to make her cheesy sauce.  I helped her boil the shells. When I found out the children were coming to stay with us, I stocked up on Breyers ice-cream.  In a phone call earlier in the week, Hayden told me they all agreed on rocky road, coffee, mint chocolate chip, and vanilla with chocolate sauce to pour over the scoops.  Dessert every night was ice-cream.  A great way to end a great meal prepared by a child.
