For the last couple of days we've been under tornado watches and flood warnings.  Two nights ago Cliff and I carried all the open porch plants (tomatoes that I started from seed and have been nurturing and protecting from cold nights, herb-filled window boxes containing hummingbird feeder tubes, pots of lavender and lots of other herbs and flowers that need to be planted) and set them on the back porch where they would be protected from predicted basketball-size hail and 50 mph winds.  We made it through the night with no events, just rain.  The next day, we put all the plants back so the rain  could wet them.  Last night we repeated the whole scenario when Jim Cantore reported torrential downpours, hail, and high winds again.  This storm had a history of tornadoes and flooding, but we lucked out with less than one inch of rain, no hail, no high winds.  Tonight all the plants are staying put.  Adapt or perish!

Last Saturday's Farmers Market didn't bring me lots of sales. First of all, we were all displaced so the Ramps and BBQ Festival could set up in our location.  We were moved to the back of the lot and some of us were set up inside an open patio area.
This is an old brick building that is being renovated after many years of neglect and abandonment.  This open patio still has walls and an arched portal.  The building is beautiful and we're so pleased to see the bricks being restored.  The vendors located outside of the patio walls near the BBQ had a good market day.  Those of us who were place inside, didn't see as many people.  Those who did wander inside said they didn't know we were in this area.  Even though the area is roofless, we were hot.  The walls prevented us from feeling any breeze and held in the 80 degree heat.  By the time 2 pm arrived, we were tired and sweaty.  We won't be vendors this Saturday because Mark and Jen are flying into Atlanta and spending 3 days with us this weekend.  I've ordered a vegetable quiche and a lemon meringue pie from "The Pie Guy" who is a vendor beside me at the market.  We've met the neatest people, very creative and social, at the market.  I wish Lauria and I lived closer because we would do the market together.  The children and I would have so much fun.
