Just Some Thoughts

Maxine and I took our coffee out on the porch this morning at about 7:10 to absorb the sunrise. Actually, she positioned herself under a chair and waited for the squirrels to appear. The temperature was around 29 degrees and all was quiet. What a beautiful way to greet the day. Years ago when Cliff and I visited Boni and Bill at their summer mountain home in Pitkin, CO, we had our early morning coffee out on their 30 degree porch. We sat wrapped in blankets with our hands cupped around hot coffee mugs watching the morning arrive. It was such a peaceful way to start the day, that I do it here often. Thank you Boni for such a spiritual start to my day.
Just a few shots of this year's lights. Last year we arrived on the 20th, with furniture in the U-Haul and being exhausted from teaching and the move, the only thing we did is take me to the hospital with a severely painful inflammation and swelling in my right hand, put up the Christmas tree, get groceries, and wait for Mark's arrival from MO.

Thank goodness this year is different and so much more enjoyable. Mark is on his way again from MO to spend Christmas with us. He left about 6 AM and should arrived about 8 PM. He'll have to detour around the TN gorge due to a massive rock slide a few months ago that totally blocked the road. That will add another hour or so to his day. The clean up is still progessing and the road won't be opened until mid January.

Not a lot of creativity. We didn't have any Christmas lights because we sold them in a garage sale when we moved so Lauria and Jim gave us the lights to begin our new tradition here.

The other day when I took the towels and clothes out of the dryer to fold, Maxine followed the warmth and immediately made herself comfortable.
Waiting for Santa.

This amazed me yesterday morning! This is a dish of frozen water that was out for the birds the day before. During the night the temp dropped to below freezing and this is what i found in the morning.
OK science people what's your theory?

There's no twig or stick in the water.

hmm, you got me. i'd like to explain that, but i can't...

could an icicle have dropped from a tree or the eave into a mostly congealed bowl of water?

sorry, that's my best guess!
