Feels Like Alaska!!!

Made hot oatmeal for breakfast.  Sun is trying to break through the cloud layer.  Temperature is stuck on 20 and may soar up to 24 by afternoon.  Gusts of wind blow the loose snow around and send the little birds on an unknown journey.

Even the deer have hunkered down to stay warm.  When I went on the porch to feed the birds I noticed three deer cuddled up in their snow beds in our back woods. (at 9:40 they are still there)

Yesterday we decided to try getting down the road with chains on the truck, but it wasn't going to happen.  Not in a no-wheel drive vehicle.   We got out of the driveway and part way down Clay Durrett Rd, lost control and slid.  Cliff was able to back up into the driveway where we left the truck.  Plan B........dress warmly and walk down to the car.  We were heading out to buy more kerosene for the heater so needed some form of a sled to pull the containers back up the road. We're alternating between the kerosene heater during the day and the propane furnace at night because we don't know when the propane delivery will be able to make it up this road.
We brought the wheel barrel with us down to the car, left it in the parking space, and headed into town.  That's what people in NY do when they try to preserve their parking space.  They place lawn chairs or other objects like the prospectors did when they would stake their claims during the Gold Rush.  We replenished some groceries, filled a container with kerosene, and had lunch out in our Mexican restaurant before heading back to Boulder Creek.  Cliff heaped the wheel barrel with our purchases, covered it with his fire coat because it was snowing again, and we headed back up the road.  I wished I had brought the camera and taken a shot of the full wheel barrel.  Our friends, Jim and Mary, from upper Boulder Creek came by and wondered what was going on and who were those fools...........We threw our goods in the back of their little all-wheel drive SUV and I got a ride home with them.  Cliff still had to drive the empty wheel barrel the rest of the way because it wouldn't fit.  To be continued................

it's so pretty, but i'm glad it's not us. :) we got about 1/2 inch of snow and school was canceled today. i think they will be going back tomorrow, though. apparently the roads are not bad at all now. if the buses can't get down the back roads, they will cancel school, again. hopefully, everything will go as planned tomorrow. there's really not enough snow on ground here to warrant a day off...

take care and stay warm!!!
