Ants

Big black ants have taken up residence in one food cabinet. They were climbing all over the cans of beets and peas, up the sides of the cabinets, and sitting on my sardines. I didn't find any inside the chocolate bits or food packages. Must be the very rainy spring weather we're having because I found miniature kayaks lined up near the kitchen door. After getting online yesterday to find a home remedy for ants, I emptied the cabinet and washed the shelves with a strong vinegar and soap solution. Then dried the wood, put cayenne pepper along the outer edges of the shelves. I placed a bay leaf on each shelf, then turned up the volume on the radio with Willie Nelson singing "On the Road Again." This morning there are still a few thinking about getting into that cabinet but when the live ants see their buddies laying on their backs with feet pointing toward the ceiling, they scurry away...... temperature was a nice 57 degrees when Maxine got us up at 6.

Yesterday in between raindrops, we got sweet potatoes planted and two rows of green bush beans and yellow wax beans in our neighbor's garden. Next couple of days are suppose to be less humid. We'll head into town shortly and walk the park.

This weekend is the 7th Annual Scottish Festival & Highland Games in Blairsville, GA. We'll go Sunday morning because we have a $5 off admission coupon. Hopefully, the weather won't be too humid and the rain will hold off til late in the day. Also, the 9-day Riverbend Festival begins this weekend in Chattanooga, TN. There will be food vendors, exhibits, runs and walks for various causes, and artists and entertainers who have performed in Nashville ....... Alison Krauss, Charlie Daniels Band, Sheryl Crow are a few. We've never been but would like to go this year.

our yard is just covered with those little buggers this year. i've sprayed commercial stuff around the doors to keep them out and so far its working. i agree, it's got to be the wet. in our case, the 4930293480790329840972039480529734 inches of snow we got might be the cause...

The best remedy for ants is to get an anteater... or yeah, some commercial ant killer at the hardware store would work too, I guess.
