Folk School Concert

Had a relaxing evening at the John Campbell Folk School Concert tonight. It was scheduled to be held outside in the big barn where we sit on hay stacks or bring folding chairs but due to storms in the area, we all packed into the Keith House. Tonight was Appalachian Folk songs and ballards performed by a husband and wife team, Ann and Rob Lough. They taught guitar/dulcimer classes all week at the school and ended their week with free entertainment for the public. Ann is originally from VA and sings, plays the mountain and hammered dulcimer, autoharp and guitar. Rob is from Kentucky and plays the guitar. The performance was packed with young and old, mostly old. We were spring chickens.

Have to make cookies and Cole slaw in the morning for two parties Saturday (today....... if you're reading this on Saturday). Cookie dough is in rolls in the freezer. Made the dough up this morning. The party at the tiki bar (starts at 4:30 PM) is an international theme and I am bringing Guatemalan Icebox Cookies. Interesting recipe I found online. Dough has chocolate, cayenne pepper, and fresh ground pepper. Chocolate has an intriguing history anyway, during time of the Maya and Aztec people when various seasonings were added to make a spicy frothy drink. I'm starting to sound like Cliffy Claven (sp?) from the old Cheers episodes. Then at 6 PM we will bring the Cole slaw and head to the Bellview Fire Dept for a BBQ. I'm told the chief is bringing ramps and fixins'.
